Tampa Bay got a rare international soccer showcase on Saturday, July 25, 2026, when Wrexham AFC and Leeds United met at Raymond James Stadium as part of the clubs’ U.S. summer tour. Local coverage framed it as a notable summer stop for two well-known clubs, and both teams’ official channels confirmed Tampa as the opening leg of the tour. The match was listed for 7:30 p.m. local time at Raymond James, with a pregame fan zone and stadium gates opening earlier in the evening, giving the Bay a full game-day window to build around. The atmosphere around Tampa was shaped by that mix of touring-club energy and local summer humidity: a one-off exhibition, a big venue, and enough novelty to pull in traveling supporters as well as local soccer fans. Bay-area media and venue listings pointed to the match as the kind of event that invites early arrivals, tailgating, and a longer pregame scene than a standard league night. (raymondjamesstadium.com)
The center of gravity was Raymond James Stadium itself. The stadium’s event pages and visitor listings pointed fans to the official match, the pregame fan zone, and the venue’s opening time, while a nearby Tailgreeter listing advertised a soccer tailgate a short walk from the gates. That lined up with the Baywire events tied to this moment: the match at Raymond James Stadium, the pregame fan zone, and the gate opening. (raymondjamesstadium.com)
Local fan chatter also suggested that supporters were looking for meetup spots and watch-party energy around the city, especially among Wrexham fans traveling in for the match. Even where the coverage was lighter on specific bar-by-bar turnout, the pattern was clear: people were planning to gather early, stay close to the stadium, and make a day of it around the game. With the Tampa stop in the books, the broader summer tour rolled on, but the Bay got its own place on the itinerary: a marquee international friendly at one of the region’s biggest stages. Expect more of these crossover sports moments to keep pulling together local soccer fans, visiting supporters, and anyone looking for a reason to meet up before kickoff.
